I co-hosted the #UsGuysChat with Paul Biedermann on July 11, 2011 with guests Triberr founders Dino Dogan and Dan Cristo. Triberr is a unique beta program created to help bloggers. This was a one hour, Twitter chat designed to enlighten people with questions about what Triberr is and dispel some of the myths and criticisms that had been circulating the last few weeks about Triberr.
There has been much debate lately about the use of Triberr and several people have taken very hard stances against it. I personally believe that each person has a view on Social Media that is right for them, and this does not make someone else’s version wrong. Being generous and kind to others always goes a long way.
Of course, sometimes we just need to agree to disagree. If you listen to the facts and review the information with an open mind, then you have at least made an informed decision. I strive to do this and learn something new every day.
On that note, I give you the modified chat transcript from the Triberr chat.
Can you tell us how you came up with the idea for @Triberr?
I was already RTing bunch of my buddies and they were doing the same thing for me…I thought to myself why not make this easier. Ba-Goosh!!! Triberr was born.
Q1 How does @Triberr work?
A1 The way Triberr works is simple. You add your blog’s RSS to your Triberr account and everyone in your tribe. A1 tweets it out to their followers. The implications of this however are staggering. Now small and medium sized bloggers. can potentially have the reach of superstar bloggers. And reach= attention, attention=opportunities. In other words, my goal with Triberr is to democratize attention amongst bloggers superstar bloggers constantly put out mediocre content. Its safe, boring and regurgitated. It gets.It gets a ton of attention because they have reach. Well…now the reach is available to the rest of us 🙂
Triberr “democratize attention” means that the content superstar bloggers put out gets an undeserving and disproportionate amount of attention simple because they comment a wider reach than the rest of us.
dancristo Bloggers often have problems connecting with other bloggers. Triberr is working towards making those introductions.
Q2 Can you explain what happens when you join @Triberr?
You add your blog’s RSS feed + twitter account and you join an existing tribe (you do need an invite). Once you’re in everyone in that tribe tweets your new blog posts in other words, you tap into the totality of the reach of all your tribe members. So, you better start writing some good stuff.
Random tweet: @EricSGoldstein: Lets remember – its a tweet, not a tattoo. Tweeting a “weak post” wont destroy your klout or your following
Q3 Can you explain “people curation” vs “blog curation” in @Triberr?
A3 When NY Times hires a journalist, they hire him based on his past performance and agree to publish his writing in the future A3 when we invite someone into our tribe, we invite them based on their past performance and agree to publish their future posts just like NY Times Editor, you can control what goes out of your stream using powerful curation mechanics.
dancristo You’ll want to find a tribe that’s a good fit: Relevant, similar audiences, quality and frequency.
Q4 So are ALL posts automated from @Triberr?
A4 Not all posts are automated. You can set your tribe on manual mode, filter-out explicit headlines, and so on. However, I do recommend auto setting simple because that means you’ve done a great job selecting your tribesmates. Auto setting is not always possible however, so Manual Mode is def a great option.
dancristo Don’t let people tell you what to do, or how to run your twitter stream. Goes both ways.
Q5 Do you consider @Triberr to be fake Social Media?
A5 I’m not even sure what “fake social media” is to be honest. Tools are just tools. They can be used in one way or another We all use tools all the time. My garage is full of them.
Q6 Can you change the tweets that are sent from the tribe in @Triberr?
Yes. You can change the tweets before they go out. http://t.co/PLvZADk
Q7 How many tribes can you be in within @Triberr ?
A7 you start out with your original/invite tribe. You are given 3 tribes of your own which you can rule with wisdom and kindness Also, we’ve enabled Inbreeding. Which means you can belong to many more tribes (if invited). http://t.co/kxylDg3
Q8 Can you please explain the analytics within @Triberr & how to use them?
A8 The analytics within Triberr are ONE OF A KIND! 🙂 We call them the Naked Stats but internally we called them No more BSSo I have ppl in my tribe with 800 followers who consistently send 10-15 visits each time they tweet my post. and I have people with 50K followers who can barely manage to send 3-5 visits each time they tweet my post. All that stuff is now visible. In other words, No More BS 🙂
Q9 I saw a new feature called “Headline Testing” in @Triberr. Exciting! Explain please.
Headline Testing Area is the next step in the evolution of community building Reach is the first thing bloggers need to attract the audience. A captivating headline is the thing that will grab a captivating headline is the next thing people need to see to get attracted to your blog. Headline Testing Area helps you sharpen the headline and get some feedback before the post is published. Once you have reach and a grabbing headline, its up to you to deliver great content. We cant help you with that. Or can we? BTW..Headline Testing Area is in v1 atm. We have some awesome updates planned for it 🙂
Random tweet: @danperezfilms: Remember: Triberr posts aren’t gonna make your lame posts any better. It’ll just be evident to more people.
Q10 Any tips for tribe building in @Triberr?
YES! Be smart about it. Have a strategy going in.
Top 10 Tribe Building Strategies for Bloggershttp://t.co/z8vBuHB
dancristo You can also make specific feeds for each tribe, to tailor the content to the right group
Q11 I know there are changes going on at @Triberr, care to share some new things?
We are basically developing Triberr based on the feedback we get from our community. Companies pay good money for the kind of feedback and engagement we get from our members, and we don’t simply pay lip service. We take community feedback very seriously and build based on that. its a total win win situation. But to be specific, if you think that Triberr is a twitter only application, you’d be wrong 🙂 That’s all I’m gonna say. I have a question for the audience. Right now you can build twitter tribes, what other social networks would you like to see.
