What the Heck is a Google Plus Hangout and Why You Should be Using Them

You have questions about Google+ Hangouts and Ronnie Bincer and I have some answers.

Watch this recorded Hangout on Air Event to learn the value offered by this wonderful communications tool.

Ronnie Bincer and I talked about what a Hangout is, why they matter to you as well as cover some great ideas on how you can use them to help communicate your message.

Ronnie is the most knowledgeable person on Google+ about Hangouts, in fact, he's known as “The Hangout Helper.” He studies them, uses them and knows all the tricks and tools to make them work perfectly.

We also talked about the details of what happens before, during and after Google+ Hangouts and what you can do to promote your Hangout prior to the live event, the day of the event and how you can repackage your content to squeeze the last bit of awesomeness out of your Hangout. Sounds informative, right? Bring your notepad and get ready to take your social media skills to a whole new level! Whether you are a writer working on a book launch, a small business looking for leads, or an entrepreneur looking to connect with potential clients, Google+ Hangouts are the place to be.

Check out this really cool teaser video for the hangout, this is a feature called a Scheduled HOA that isn't available to everyone yet on Google+ but I can't wait to have it!

Ronnie created a video about Scheduled HOAs. This is my most anticipated new feature since you won't have to create an Event and a Hangout separately and it will have a countdown timer!

This is the full video and I'll be updating this article with main highlights soon.

Some of the tips that we covered about Hangouts On Air:

1. Google+ Hangouts on Air have great SEO value because they are recorded and go straight to your YouTube account.

2. Connect with people by showing your personality and let people get to know you through video.

3. Your video continues to work for you long after the event is over.

4. You can repackage the video by turning it into a blog post (like this one) or by chopping it into smaller pieces to create more videos.

5. To create a custom overlay like Ronnie's in the video, use a 1280 x 720 image with a transparent background and make a cool image on the side with your name and avatar.

6. You can share your video on all the other social platforms so it can connect others to your great Google+ connect. They aren't just for Google+!

7. They've added cool features for enhancing the video right in the Hangout.

Using Google+ Hangouts is like having your very own T.V. channel, use it to credit multiple layers of media for your social presence to enhance your brand, show your skills, or share ideas with others. The world is alive on the internet, Google+ Hangouts are a way for you to build a relevant voice and be a part of the action. What are you waiting for?

  1. This is way cool!
People should tune in if no other reason than to see what happens when two of the most POSITIVE people around connect … plus… you get to learn all about Hangouts/Hangouts on Air, and what to do before, during and after the live event.
    Now how cool it that!

  2. Scottatsm4hc Hi Scott! You might already know all the video and Hangout information since you’re so Google+ savvy but hopefully you’ll get something helpful from it. 🙂

  3. PegFitzpatrick Scottatsm4hc  Have a MIRL (meeting in real life) for the first part of the show, but am bringing my laptop/hotspot to catch the rest. Wouldn’t miss it for the world.

  4. PegFitzpatrick Scottatsm4hc I’m not sure if this answers your question, but the internet carrier is CLEAR, and the hotsoot is a mobile device that can easily fit in the palm of the hand. For it to work well in public, I need to sit close to an outside window. 🙂

  5. Indeed, videos are more interactive than just mere conversation. It’s nice that Ronnie an SEO expert and you, PegFitzpatrick combined your ideas to share us this wonderful video. 🙂

  6. I do consider hangout on air is a powerful tool not just to get your message out there and connect with people, but also think you can make a small webinar through it.

  7. BelindaSummers Glad you liked it! I thought that we would each bring a different perspective on how to do things and being able to ask Ronnie questions about Hangouts was a bonus! He’s very generous.

  8. PegFitzpatrick Alexandra Nicola No I haven’t. I was thinking about trying one out with a few friends sort of a beta version for us to see how it works out.

  9. PegFitzpatrick BelindaSummers Thanks guys… nice to be part of a dynamic conversation about stuff I love to talk about! Hangouts and Hangouts on Air… and how Social connections and… well, you know!

  10. Scottatsm4hc Thanks my friend… it is always a fun thing to know you’ll be watching and maybe even doing stuff to the video for us when we are done!

  11. videoleadsonline Scottatsm4hc So funny Ronnie “The Hangout Helper” Bincer.  Right after the meeting, I set up my laptop with hotspot to JIP (Join in Progress), then got so distracted showing off the HOA (Hangout on Air) to my FRL (friends in real life) that I entirely missed your shout-out (and Peg’s too)  :(.
You betcha … these will be the best TST’s (The Scott Treatment) ever!
*BTW, just lovee those TLW (three letter acronymes)  🙂

  12. Scottatsm4hc videoleadsonline I’m sure you mean TLA, but I’m sure we can come up with a deep meaning for TLW… if we put our minds to it.

  13. videoleadsonline Scottatsm4hc You’ve heard of four letter words? I guess TLW would stand for Three Letter Words, very useful in Scrabble.don’t you know. 🙂

  14. Google Hangout is so useful for webinars (online meeting) thank you for spending time producing this content. Very helpful
