A Chat with @JayBaer and @AmberCadabra #MyBookClub

This month My Book Club discussed The Now Revolution: 7  Shifts to Make Your Business Faster, Smarter and More Social with Jay Baer and Amber Naslund. I loved this book and the structure of the information. I also respect Jay & Amber for their down-to-earth, realistic views of social media. I first learned of The Now Revolution in a chat and purchased it online before the hour was up — these two really know what they are talking about!

The Now Revolution is for those working in the Social Media world, not for individuals looking to dabble online more proficiently. From how to hire the proper talent and skill sets necesssary to be successful to how to organize the troops and get your corporate army in motion, The Now Revolution is a VERY USEFUL book.  Discussing complicated concepts broken into digestible, practical advice, Jay and Amber don't waste your time with fluff and buzzwords — you can actually put this information to use in your organization today!

The Now Revolution’s Seven Shifts for Real-Time Business are:

  1. Engineer a New Bedrock
  2. Find Talent You Can Trust
  3. Organize Your Armies
  4. Answer the New Telephone
  5. Emphasize Response-Ability
  6. Build a Fire Extinguisher
  7. Make a Calculator

The cultural manifesto

One of my favorite concepts in the book is the cultural manifesto. “The cultural manifesto becomes the touchstone for most everything you build, but getting new team members up to speed today (or retooling the team that you have and shifting its focus) is much more about immersion in mind-set than anything else.” This is going to be the living, breathing life of your social media plan — not something to be kept locked up in top-secret executive meetings. Creating, implementing and utilizing your own company’s cultural manifesto creates the blueprint for the success of your social media program throughout every level of your business: “Educate your teams with goals, vision & purpose, not procedure manuals.”

Who should read this book?

This book should be required reading for anyone interested in learning how Social Media should work in a corporation. If you need to create a social media program and don't know where to get started, this is the book for you. Additionally, there are Microsoft tags throughout the book that link to videos and other online resources that provide even more rich details and real life corporate examples.

Remember: “Passion is the gasoline of social media and the Now Revolution, and you can’t fake passion over the long haul.”

Coming next month
