What Makes You Happy? A Guest Pondering

What Makes You Happy? A Guest Pondering

Hi there, readers of my mom’s blog. I’ve decided to give my mother a break from blogging and write her pondering post for her this week. When I asked her what to write about, she told me to answer the following question:

How do you stay positive all the time?

Now, being a teenager, I gave her a quick, simple answer and she told me to write about that. I’m not an expert but I’ll do my best.

The first thing you need to know is what makes you happy. Now I could give you a google (1 with 100 zeros after it. It’s a real number.) of dictionary definitions but they wouldn’t do you any good if you don’t know what happy means to you. What I want you to do is to write down what happiness means to you on a sticky note or whatever you choose. Here’s one you can use:

Do you have your definition now? I hope you do. Now to be happy all the time the first thing you have to do is become happy. You can do this by making your definition come true. Whether it means doing something, being with someone or looking at pictures of baby pandas.

Congratulations! You are now happy! Now to stay happy, do the things that make you happy as much as possible. And, as the phenomenal videoblogger Zefrank says, “Chase That Happy.”

You also want to stay away from things that make you unhappy. Now this can be as easy as cleaning a little clutter off your desk or getting a new pen but it may be harder like staying away from negative people.

I personally like to fix this problem by letting some of my happy run off on them by making them smile or laugh. If you have things in your life that can’t be fixed by that, you always ALWAYS ALWAYS need to look on the bright side of things. Their lawn is greener? Well, then have an awesome garden. The glass is half empty? No! It’s half full! I twisted my ankle and can’t dance? Well, at least I still have a leg.

Well, maybe not all of these are the best examples. But you get the idea. Choosing to be happy is what makes me stay positive. I choose the positive things that go on my personal post-it note of happiness.

I hope this post got you thinking. I would love to see your meaning of happy so please tweet me at @ShaylalaRose or leave them in the comments.

Superbly,

Shayla

Shayla - Fabulous piece of expression and writing.

What makes me happy is waking up in the morning, seeing the dawn breaking the new day, and knowing I will be part of this previously unseen and new experience.

Each day is an adventure to be explored. Each day is a gift to be cherished. Each day is yours and yours alone. How could one be anything BUT happy?

Cheers,Marc

@MZazeela to answer your question i think have to be choosing not to be happy. its like decideing which way to look. you dont have to look at the sad side but some people choose to do so anyways. thanks for reading and responding and letting me answer your (rhetorical) question!!!

Shayla, there are many things that make me happy.  Laughing with my wife is one thing I enjoy and playing guitar and singing are another two.  My children make me happy when they show me that they've learned from their mistakes.  When I focus my mind mind on the things that I love, I am most happiest.  Thanks for asking, your post has made a positive difference in my life by reminding me of how to stay positive. @Peg Fitzpatrick

"Choosing to be happy is what makes me stay positive." That type of wisdom will result in a happy, fulfilled life regardless of the successes and failures that come your way. Great job, Shayla.

Love this post, Superbly Shayla! As you say, happiness is a choice. We all have ups and downs, challenges and struggles,  aches and pains… the key is choosing to see the happiness forest rather than the trees of despair, unless that makes you happy :-)
