What is #MyBookClub?

Sharing is caring!

Meeting fabulous people is the BEST part about Twitter. Many of my Social Media/Marketing friends are also readers which is spectacular. Pondering the thought of creating an online monthly book club for the past few months, the idea had been germinating and frequently percolating to the top.ย ย While chatting in one of my favorite weekly events #LeadershipChat with some perspicacious cohorts, we started discussing books and what we were reading. Within a fifteen minute time span, #MyBookClub was born! I tweeted the date, June 12th and the book: Enchantment by Guy Kawasaki. Within a half hour, Mr. Kawasaki himself tweeted me.

Enchantment Book Cover

“@GuyKawasaki to:ย @pegsta1 let me know if you want a Skype appearance for your club.”

Already throughly thrilled, this put me over the top: total enchantment! All the pieces of the puzzle came together for me at this moment. Getting into the meat of the book, the realization that Mr. Kawasaki tweeted me seemed less surprising: he lives and breathes his theories. It was a very generous offer and the thought was touching to me. While he has another engagement on this day, knowing he will be with us in spirit makes it that much more special. (Hat tip to Guy Kawasaki)ย

#MyBookClub will be a monthly event on the second Sunday night of the month at 10 pm EST. Yes, this is late but not for folks on the West Coast. The first session of #MyBookClub ย will be held on June 12th at 10 pm EST. Please read Enchantment and prepare for some great tweeting as we share ideas and impressions. My online buddy Tobey Deys will be co-hosting #MyBookClub with me to add some smarty to the party.

Update: If you haven't visited and “liked” the Facebook page for Enchantment, you can do so here:ย http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/enchantment . Mr. Kawasaki generously allowed me to post details about #MyBookClub here and has a free copy of Presentation Zen by Garr Reynolds to first 750 people who register.

Also – this is the coolest! If you would like an autographed cover of Enchantment, check out this link:ย http://www.guykawasaki.com/enchantment/cover/. I'm sending my request today.

So,ย you are formally invited to join me in this exciting, innovative venture with me and who ever else decides to participate! Please bring a friend and follow the #MyBookClub hashtag.

#MyBookClub #2 will be held on July 10th and we will be discussion Social Media ROI by @thebrandbuilder Olivier Blanchard. A Discussion Leader at the #unGeeked Conference in Chicago, his impressive knowledge and experience made for a fascinating discussion. Maybe he will be available to pop in to say hi and answer questions.

Looking forward to the exchange of ideas each month, meeting new friends and discussing books, what could be more enchanting than that?

  4. I’m in! You enchant us!

Enchanted is a great book to kick things off — particularly since Guy is SO APPROACHABLE. It’s a nice touch if authors can make an appearance.

I’m so into the idea of a book club. If there’s anything I can do to help out, let me know.

    1. Your respect means the world to me Sam! Thank you very much for the kind thoughts. I am not sure if I am the nest Oprah, but the book club seems like a good idea. ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. I AM IN, if you’ll have me! I adore book clubs if the people are cool (and these are!) and I love both books. It will be a pleasure and a delight to talk about them, and I predict we’ll branch out deliciously as well.

What a grand idea from a fantastic #ungeeked buddy. Can’t wait!

    (Hoping I get approved…)

  6. Oh Dane, thank you so much! You are such an inspiration to me and a joy to befriend.

I greatly appreciate the comment & am going to be stalking your blog later. *mwah*
