Pondering: Setting a Goal for Success

Sharing is caring!

If I asked you what your current goal is what would you say? Do you have set goals or are you just winging it and hoping for the best?

โ€œYou are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream.โ€ C.S. Lewis

You must have something that you want to achieve and haven't started yet. Think about this for a moment. Make a list of things that you would like to set as long-term goals. This is not a to-do list of all your tasks for the day or week but something that you would need to plan the steps to complete.

Then pick just ONE goal or habit that you would like to work on. Only one at a time: ย slow and steady wins the race.

Leo Babauta of Zen Habits recommends:

“Pick one. Any one. Iโ€™d suggest an easy one. The important thing isnโ€™t that you choose the right habit but that you start.ย Picking one habit allows you to succeed and build on that success. Thatโ€™s more important than you might think if you havenโ€™t done that before.”

Power tip:ย Tell others about your goal or intention to help support you and hold you accountable.

โ€œAim higher in case you fall short.โ€ Suzanne Collins

Per Lesley Aldreman:

“Don't let your goals run wild!”

This is not the time for grandiose plans that are overly ambitious. Be reasonable, push yourself but within your limits. Be kind to yourself and applaud your successes along the way towards achieving your goal.

โ€œHappiness is not a goal…it's a by-product of a life well lived.โ€ Eleanor Roosevelt

So…my intention is to start regularly going to the gym. I started yesterday and would like to build up going several times a week. This means I need to stop putting everything before my own health. I am telling YOU to hold myself accountable.

Power tip: Make yourself a priority!

My friend Heather Frey wrote in 12 Most Inspiring Ways to THINK Yourself FIT!

“Don't think getting fit is selfishย if you take time away from your family and kids to workout. They need a strong and happy Mom and Dad, not tired-sad-resentful Mom and Dad. Taking care of yourself takes care of them.”

What goal do you have that you need to set in motion?
