Be Positive: Books to Nurture Your Positive Spirit

Sharing is caring!

Last week I wrote about Why Your Social Media Persona Really Does Matterย and for part two in this Be Positive series I want to share some resources to help nurture your positive spirit. ย If your spirit is dragging due to stress, responsibilities or just plain old life, giving it a boost with some positive vibes can get you back on track. Alternatively, ifย your spirit is strong and glowing keep the momentum by feeding it.

Some things that I love to renew me are music or taking a walk but I also love reading. Reading takes you on a mental journey far away from anything other than the book in your hand. Television can be a diversion but the commercials and electronic glow aren't what you need at the end of a long day.

Here are a few books that I love that have made me think, engaged my mind and transformed my thinking. I hope they do the same for you.

The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin

“Enthusiasm is more important than innate ability, it turns out, because the single more important element in developing an expertise is your willingness to practice.”
โ€”ย Gretchen Rubin

The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz

โ€œThe human mind is like a fertile ground were seed are continually being planted. The seeds are opinions, ideas, and concepts. You plant a seed, a thought grows, and it grows. The word is like a seed and the human mind is so fertile!โ€
โ€•ย Don Miguel Ruiz

Be the Inspiration: 7 Ways to Inspire Your World by Sheri Kaye Hoff

โ€œLive each day with more peace, passion, energy, and joy.โ€
โ€•ย Sheri Kaye Hoff

Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert

“Happiness is the consequence of personal effort. You fight for it, strive for it, insist upon it, and sometimes even travel around the world looking for it. You have to participate relentlessly in the manifestations of your own blessings. And once you have achieved a state of happiness, you must never become lax about maintaining it. You must make a mighty effort to keep swimming upward into that happiness forever, to stay afloat on top of it.”ย
โ€”ย Elizabeth Gilbert

Gift from the Sea by Anne Morrow Lindbergh

“I find there is a quality to being alone that is incredibly precious. Life rushes back into the void, richer, more vivid, fuller than before.”ย
โ€”ย Anne Morrow Lindbergh

The Secret by Rhonda Byrne

“Create your day in advance by thinking the way you want it to go, and you will create your life intentionally.”

โ€” Rhonda Byrne

Do you have any favorite books that you've read that have helped you frame your thinking and created a positive mood? I'd love to hear about them and what you do to nurture your positive spark.

    1. @kennettkwokย Glad you liked it! Gretchen Rubin has a website (which started the idea for the book)ย http://www.happiness-project.com/ which you should check out.

      Thanks for stopping by. ๐Ÿ™‚

      1. @PegFitzpatrickย Love her tips already! I never realized such small things would bring a smile to my face!

        1. @PegFitzpatrickย Yup! I’ve never asked you before, but what are your top 5 favourite books?

        2. @kennettkwokย Depends on what type of book. It’s so hard for me to narrow it down to five. These are a few of my faves: Gone with the Wind, The Little House on the Prairie Series, Enchantment, Bridget Jone’s Diary and my recent favorite is The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. But I have many, many that I love. How about you? What are your five favorites?

        3. @PegFitzpatrickย Enchantment is one of my favourites too. Others on the list: Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell, Making Ideas Happy by Scott Belsky, Four Hour Work Week by Timothy Ferriss and Crush It! by Gary Vaynerchuk :)Thanks for sharing yours!

        4. @kennettkwokย Everyone seems to be reading the Four Hour Work Week. I need to check that out even though it’s not possible to work a 4 hour work week or work day for that matter in social media.

        5. @PegFitzpatrickย It’s a great book. It helped free my mind about the conventional 9-5 jobs and how it can be done. I won’t necessarily apply some of his principles because it’s not possible with social media like you said. That being said, there are some tips and techniques that can help reduce the noise in our life – and help us consider things we’ve never before.

        6. @PegFitzpatrickย ย It’s a great book. It made me realize that there are more options than just the conventional 9-5 jobs. And you’re right – we can’t possibly spend 4 hours a week on some things like social media. That being said, he has some great insight on reducing noise and workload that I have been trying to implement!
